FACT First Look: OĀNJO

Sheraton Mall of the Emirates is now home to a fusion of Japanese and Portuguese cuisine.

Say olá to OĀNJO, Dubai’s only Portuguese and Japanese restaurant which opened its doors this week at Sheraton Mall of the Emirates.

Serving a unique fusion of Nikkei cuisine, the rooftop restaurant on the 24th floor of Sheraton Mall of the Emirates offers stunning skyline views to complement the delightful dishes prepared by OĀNJO’s culinary maestros.

OAnjo

The name OĀNJO translates as “angel” in both Japanese and Portuguese and reflects the heavenly experience that diners can expect at the contemporary Portuguese Nikkei restaurant.

OĀNJO draws inspiration from the trading history connecting the two countries, which dates back to the 16th century when Portuguese explorers landed on the southern tip of the Japanese archipelago. This is reflected in the cuisine and the interiors, which present a harmonious combination of Japanese and Portuguese influences that honour tradition whilst looking to the future. Here, colour-washed aged walls resembling traditional Portuguese architecture are accented by Japanese ceiling fans, whilst floor-to-ceiling windows provide spectacular views of the Burj Khalifa and Burj Al Arab.

Chef Sergio Cruz’s menu features several signatures, including Sardinhas Marinadas, Bacalhau à Brás, Maki Rolls and Nigiri. When it comes to the fully stocked beverage list, the restaurant’s signature OĀNJO cocktail is not to be missed.
