Mark your calendars for this pop-up in the capital

Shangri-La Hotel’s culinary master series will continue next month.

The world of gastronomy is a rich and fascinating one, and perfectly illustrating its complexity is the Culinary Master Series at Shangri-La Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri in Abu Dhabi. For the uninitiated, the hotel kicked off the series of unmissable dining experiences in December 2021 with Michelin-starred chef Baptiste Renouard from Ochre. And in keeping with the tradition of hosting the best of the best, it’s gearing up to welcome Michelin-starred chef Chatchai Klanklong of Thai restaurant L’Orchidée fame.

Taking over the kitchen of Shangri-La’s Vietnamese restaurant, Hoi An, the acclaimed chef will spearhead a collection of dining experiences from 10 to 13 March, complemented by exclusive cooking classes for those looking for a more hands-on experience. Guests will enjoy his culinary craft, which is inspired by his upbringing in the Thai province of Petchabun and memories of watching his mother prepare meals from scratch.

The five-course menu will feature hand-selected dishes elevated by the freshest produce, kicking off with red tuna with soy sauce, ginger and avocado followed by a stunning egg yolk confit with black truffles, crispy bread and hazelnut butter – a treat for the eyes and taste buds alike. Diners are also set to delight in the tom yum soup with lobster and a main course of milk lamb with cabbage and satay sauce before indulging in a tropical dessert that incorporates wild mango, passion fruit and coconut.

“I am passionate about creating elevated dining experiences that bring together my culinary expertise amassed over the years whilst paying homage to my treasured heritage. This menu, I believe, represents just that,” says chef Klanklong says about his menu for the upcoming pop-up. The exclusive set menu will be available for AED 448 per person with soft beverages, and AED 696 with grape pairing. Meanwhile, the daily cooking classes led by the chef during his residency are priced at AED 172 per person, limited to a maximum of five participants. Shangri-La is set to announce further editions within the Culinary Master Series in the near future. Watch this space.
