Chök Riyadh brings chic chocolate desserts to the Saudi capital

The Spanish-born brand serves chocolate cakes, cookies and croissants.

Do chocolate-inspired desserts sound tasty to you? Well, you’re in luck as Chök Riyadh has opened in the Saudi capital, serving a whole array of pastries, cakes and cookies. The Spanish-born brand has opened its first bakery in the Middle East, and it is located in The Esplanade mall.

Chök Riyadh is home to chocolate cookies, pastries and cakes. While chocolate is at the heart of the shop, there are also doughnuts, cheesecakes and truffles. If you feel guilty about indulging in these desserts, you can remind yourself that they include natural ingredients, vegan products and gluten-free options.

The new store is monochrome chic with white walls and black touches. The high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows all give it a light, airy feeling, which means that the desserts can take centre stage. Inside, you’ll find chefs at work baking cakes and icing doughnuts. The creative creations are a thing of beauty and look too good to eat – well, almost.

The bakery also has its own take on the New York-born cronut – a cross between a croissant and doughnut. The much-loved dessert comes in fun flavours, such as almond cream with Kinder and red berries.

In Spain, Chök is known as the chocolate kitchen and there are shops in Gibraltar, Seville and Valencia. The first venue opened in Barcelona in 2013 and it has been making handmade desserts daily. Plus, the brand prides itself on creativity as well as experimentation.

The Esplanade is home to great retail and restaurant offerings, and new venues are opening regularly. Twina Riyadh recently opened in the mall – the Jeddah-born brand has made its way to capital, and serves soups, salads and special seafood dishes.

Leave room for dessert – Chök Riyadh is open daily from 4pm to midnight.
