Cool Andy Warhol exhibition in AlUla announced

FAME: Andy Warhol in AlUla brings his world-famous silkscreens to the kingdom.

Andy Warhol’s work has been spotted everywhere, from the walls of New York galleries to cans of soup. Now it is making its way to Saudi Arabia’s AlUla, as the exhibition FAME: Andy Warhol in AlUla opens from 17 February 2023.

FAME: Andy Warhol in AlUla is part of the Arts AlUla festival, which runs from 16 to 28 February 2023. The exhibition has been produced in collaboration with The Andy Warhol Museum, which holds the largest collection of the artist’s work and is curating this special exhibition for AlUla’s Maraya.

This is a rare chance to see some of Warhol’s most famous paintings and prints in the kingdom. The silkscreens showcase the artist’s interest in the power of public figures and celebrity. Highlights include Warhol’s silkscreen prints of Elizabeth Taylor, Muhammad Ali and Dolly Parton.

The installation includes his specially designed wallpaper and Silver Clouds with floating metallic pillows. The exhibition also showcases rarely seen photographs, from Hollywood publicity shots to Polaroid portraits, which were later used as source images for his paintings and prints.

Nora Aldabal, Executive Director, Arts and Creative Industries for Arts AlUla, explained: “In homage to a heritage built by diverse cultural perspectives, Arts AlUla will present FAME: Andy Warhol in AlUla as part of a long-term vision of spectacular and multicultural arts initiatives. We aim to drive a new era of cultural exchange, including exhibitions that feature the most important regional and international artists from the mid 20th century to the present day.”

AlUla is one of the most impressive historical sights in Saudi Arabia, as it combines history with modernity. The area is home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site and boasts more than 2,000 years of history.

AlUla is currently hosting its first-ever Ancient Kingdoms Festival, which runs from 11 to 27 November. Plus, Maraya hosts world-class concerts, which previously included Alicia Keys, John Legend and Westlife.

AlUla, we are buzzing.
