From Monaco to Saudi Arabia: MayaBay Riyadh is opening in 2023

Caviar dim sum, anyone? Here’s what you can expect from the fine dining Asian restaurant.

MayaBay is going global. The Monaco-born restaurant is expanding, having opened its second branch in Dubai in May, it is now set to open its third in Riyadh in early 2023.

MayaBay started life in Monte Carlo, Monaco in 2005 and is known for creating a fine dining Asian experience. Chef Christophe Dupuy heads up the Monaco kitchen, and the dishes span Japanese sushi, Thai curries and Chinese dim sum.

While little news has been revealed about MayaBay Riyadh, if MayaBay Monaco and MayaBay Dubai are anything to go by, it looks set to be a must-visit dining destination. According to the MayaBay Riyadh website, the new restaurant is expected to open in early 2023 on Prince Turki Ibn Abdulaziz Al Awwal Road. The venue will cover a spacious 600 square meters, including a terrace.

MayaBay Riyadh

The original venue is a hit with food critics, as it has made its way into the prestigious MICHELIN Guide. So, we are hoping that the Riyadh restaurant includes some of MayaBay’s signature dishes and mocktails. MayaBay’s signature dishes include the Maya crispy duck, pad thai, MayaBay sashimi and black cod with miso and honey. Plus, the more indulgent dishes include caviar dim sum wok-fried lobster and wagyu beef sashimi.

We are expecting MayaBay to make some magical mocktails, as its previous creations include a virgin MayaBay with cucumber, kiwi and apple juice; fleurs des iles with mango coulis, passion fruit, banana and ginger syrup; and dragon berry with strawberry, raspberry, lime and mango juide. Plus, the drinks menu includes Japanese lemonade, sencha melon and kiwi, and oriental sheherzade (iced tea and fresh mango).

Across the world, MayaBay is known for its restaurant-meets-club atmosphere. We imagine that MayaBay Riyadh will be home to that same buzzing atmosphere, as other venues include live entertainment from DJs to percussionists. Plus, the décor is expected to be just as swish as its predecessors, with nods to Thailand’s islands and upmarket touches.

Riyadh is fast becoming a dining destination, as it has welcomed celebrity chefs and big brands ranging from LPM to ROKA. Foodies will be pleased to hear that there are plenty of major restaurant openings lined up, which include Amazónico Riyadh, Mr Chow and Nammos.

You’re spoilt for choice.
