The influential Egyptian band took over Abadi Al Johar Arena for a night of Arabic alternative rock.
Saudi Arabia’s live music scene continues to bring major regional artists to the Kingdom. Egyptian rock band Cairokee will take to the stage at Abadi Al Johar Arena in Jeddah on Thursday, 3 September 2026, bringing more than two decades of music to the Red Sea city. The Supernova album concert forms part of this year’s Jeddah Season celebrations.
For the uninitiated, Cairokee are one of the most important alternative bands to emerge from Egypt. The group consists of vocalist Amir Eid, guitarist Sherif El Hawary, drummer Tamer Hashem, keyboardist Sherif Mostafa and bassist Adam El-Alfy. Their story dates back to the early 2000s, when members began performing together and experimenting with English-language covers before turning their attention towards Arabic songwriting.
While Cairokee had been building a following for several years, their breakthrough came during Egypt’s 2011 revolution. Songs addressing freedom, identity and social change connected with a generation of listeners, transforming the group from an underground act into one of the Arab world’s defining rock bands. “Sout El Horeya”, recorded with Hany Adel, became closely associated with the revolution, while “Ya El Midan” with Aida El Ayoubi further established their reputation for music rooted in contemporary Egyptian life.
That momentum continued across albums including Matloob Zaeem, El Sekka Shemal, Nas w Nas, Nokta Beeda, The Ugly Ducklings and Roma. Along the way, Cairokee have expanded their sound beyond straightforward rock, incorporating electronic elements, Egyptian folk influences and increasingly introspective songwriting.
Fans will also know Cairokee for tracks such as “Ethbat Makanak”, “Ya Abyad Ya Eswed”, “El Keif”, “Roma”, “James Dean” and “Telk Qadeya”. The latter became another significant release for a band that has consistently used its music to examine personal struggles and wider social issues.
The Jeddah concert will give Saudi fans another chance to experience the band’s catalogue live. Tickets go on sale via WeBook on Monday, 17 August 2026 at 8pm.
