Footballer Lionel Messi takes a family holiday in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Tourism’s brand ambassador landed in Riyadh.

Legendary footballer Lionel Messi has been enjoying his new Saudi Tourism brand ambassador role. The sports star landed in Riyadh on 1 May, and has been spotted around the capital. So, if you want to make like Messi, here’s where to visit.  

Messi arrived in Riyadh with his family, and is scheduled to spend two days in the capital. The family enjoyed an authentic Saudi breakfast, and were introduced to the endangered Arabian Gazelle. Plus, they learnt how to play the popular board game Carrom, and the ancient art of palm weaving. 

As we are on the ground in Riyadh, rumours were circulating in Bujairi Terrace that he was not only in town, but on the terrace. So far, we know that his trip will include more family-friendly activities and attractions, from historical gems to immersive outdoor experiences. 

Messi recently shared a post on Instagram, which stated: “Who thought Saudi has so much green? I love to explore its unexpected wonders whenever I can. #visitsaudi”

The trip comes after Lionel led his home team, Argentina, to victory at FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The footballer has been to Saudi Arabia before, as he visited Jeddah with his friends, but this is his first visit with his family. 

In 2022, Messi was declared the Saudi Tourism brand ambassador, and made a visit to Jeddah’s sights and Jeddah Season. Plus, in 2021, Lionel featured on promotional posters for Riyadh Season, and Cirque du Soleil created a special show celebrating the footballer for the festival.
