King Salman Gate will transform the way people move around the Holy City.
Saudi Arabia has been buzzing with development projects. The holy city of Makkah is no exception to this wave of transformation either, especially with millions of pilgrims visiting every year. To accommodate the growing influx of pilgrims and enhance their experience, a landmark project called the King Salman Gate has just been announced.
King Salman Gate is set to become a massive, mixed-use urban development, designed to modernise Makkah while respecting its historic and spiritual significance. Covering 12 million square meters, this project will function almost like a small city surrounding Masjid Al Haram. It will combine residential, cultural, commercial, and hospitality spaces, all within walking distance, making commuting convenient.
Strategically situated adjacent to the Grand Mosque, King Salman Gate will provide convenience, comfort, and accessibility to the pilgrims. With public transportation networks on the agenda, navigating the Holy site will become easier.
Once completed, the development will offer a wide range of spaces, including residential apartments, hotels, shopping areas, and restaurants. It is expected to accommodate up to 900,000 worshippers across indoor prayer halls and outdoor courtyards. Additionally, the project will restore around 19,000 square meters of heritage sites, preserving Makkah’s rich history even as the city embraces modern infrastructure. Pilgrims will enjoy a mix of cultural experiences and modern comforts, all designed to enhance their experience.

King Salman Gate represents a transformation in the way people live, visit, and experience Makkah. By combining convenience, comfort, and cultural enrichment with the spiritual atmosphere of Masjid Al Haram, it is set to become one of the most significant developments in the region. Details of when these will be completed are still under wraps, but stay tuned for all the insights.
