A dedicated new feature aims to support female mobility, safety, and economic empowerment.

Uber has officially launched Women Drivers in Saudi Arabia, an all-women ride option designed to pair female riders exclusively with female drivers. The new feature builds on the tech company’s commitment to creating a safer, more inclusive environment for women while further supporting Saudi Arabia’s broader Vision 2030 goals.

The move comes seven years after the Kingdom lifted its driving ban for women, a landmark moment that continues to shape the country’s social and economic landscape. Since then, Uber has played an active role in expanding women’s mobility, already enabling over 20 million subsidised rides for female users.

The Uber platform already allowed women drivers in the Kingdom to accept only female passengers, and this new update makes the experience even more accessible, safe, and empowering for both sides.

Alongside the new ride option, Uber has rolled out a regional initiative called #Gigsister, which connects women drivers into a supportive network designed to foster mentorship, community, and shared growth. The company is also partnering with Alnahda Society, a non-profit that champions women’s empowerment and financial literacy in Saudi Arabia.

Youssef Abouseif, Uber’s General Manager in Saudi Arabia, explained: “The launch of the ‘Women Drivers’ product reflects our commitment to empowering women and supporting their mobility and economic independence. We’re giving women more choice, more opportunity, and a strong sense of community.”

Fahd Hamidaddin, CEO of the Saudi Tourism Authority, added: “One thing we’re not doing well is talking about safety for women. We’re going to tell the world how safe Saudi Arabia is for our mothers, sisters and daughters, our female travellers.”

The feature has already rolled out in markets including Egypt, Jordan, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, and several European countries.
