Range Rover has officially entered its electric era. Following years of development after the project was first announced in 2023, the British marque has unveiled its first fully electric Range Rover, marking one of the most significant changes in the model’s history.
Rather than reinventing the Range Rover for the electric age, the company has taken a deliberately familiar approach. The Range Rover Electric retains the imposing proportions, minimalist surfaces and recognisable silhouette of its combustion-powered siblings. Look closer, however, and subtle changes have been introduced to improve efficiency, including an aerodynamically optimised grille, redesigned wheels and modifications beneath the vehicle.

The philosophy is simple: this is a Range Rover first and an electric vehicle second. That approach extends beneath the bodywork, where twin permanent-magnet electric motors produce a combined 550PS, equivalent to approximately 542 horsepower, and 850Nm of torque. The result is a zero to 100km/h time of 4.5 seconds, giving the sizeable luxury SUV performance that would not look out of place alongside its petrol-powered stablemates.
Power comes from a 118.5kWh double-stacked battery operating on an 800-volt electrical architecture. Range Rover claims a WLTP driving range of up to 600km, while its estimated real-world figure stands at 535km. When connected to a 350kW rapid DC charger, the battery can be replenished from 10 to 80 per cent in around 22 minutes. Drivers can also add up to 220km of range in approximately 10 minutes under suitable charging conditions.

Electrification has not meant abandoning the capability that has helped define Range Rover since the original model appeared in 1970. The Electric can wade through water up to 900mm deep, while its Intelligent Torque Management system can alter power delivery far faster than a conventional combustion-powered drivetrain. Single-pedal driving has also been integrated with the Terrain Response system, allowing drivers to control the vehicle more precisely across difficult surfaces.
There are advantages on the road, too. Removing the traditional engine dramatically reduces drivetrain noise, creating what Range Rover describes as its quietest model yet. The near-silent electric powertrain complements the spacious cabin, premium materials and comfort-focused character for which the flagship SUV has become known.

The new automobile will be manufactured at JLR’s historic Solihull plant in England, the home of Range Rover production since 1970. Its arrival represents an important milestone for the company as it expands the role of electric propulsion across its portfolio.
Most importantly, the Range Rover Electric does not attempt to disguise its heritage. Rather than adopting an overtly futuristic identity, it takes one of the motoring world’s most recognisable luxury SUVs and changes what powers it. The silhouette, luxury and go-anywhere attitude remain, but the familiar Range Rover formula has now gone electric.
