Ramadan at Diriyah: Join coffee workshops, heritage trails and traditional Iftars

The exciting events take place throughout the Holy Month.

If you’re looking for ways to celebrate Ramadan in Riyadh, we’d recommend heading to Diriyah. During the Holy Month, there are special events taking place at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of At-Turaif and the dining destination of Bujairi Terrace.

Ramadan at Diriyah brings together charity, culture, heritage, prayers and sport. Visitors are invited to break their fast with coffee, water and dates against the backdrop of historic At-Turaif. The Bujairi Terrace’s Iftar options range from traditional Saudi dishes to international cuisines. If you’re after an Iftar with a view, head to Café Bateel and Wacafe, which overlooks At-Turaif. Plus, Diriyah Seasonal Market’s Souq Al-Mawsim sells locally sourced produce.

The family-friendly events range from poetry readings to themed storytelling. The Family Tree allows visitors to share stories of about their next of kin and create a family tree. Plus, if you’ve been curious about a moon sighting committee, head to Discover the Ramadan Sky. The educational-meets-spiritual programme allows visitors to learn about the sky’s association with Iftar times.

Diriyah is filled with history and this is a great opportunity to learn about the birthplace of the kingdom. Hidden Heritage Trail of At-Turaif takes visitors on a tour of the lesser-known sites. At-Turaif Retrospective (Descendants) screens short films, which share stories of the site. Plus, Tarawih Prayer Time takes place at At-Turaif Mosque.

Located approximately 14 minutes north of Riyadh, Diriyah is famous for being the original capital of Saudi Arabia, as it was once the seat of power for the Al Saud family. During the 18th and 19th century, it was home to the founder of the first Saudi state, Mohammed bin Saud.  

Bujairi Terrace and At-Turaif’s Ramadan activities run daily from 4pm to 3am. A Diriyah Pass is required and costs SAR 100, and it is redeemable at any Bujairi Terrace restaurant.
