Japan and Saudi Arabia share a special relationship. This autumn, the two countries will be marking 70 years of diplomatic relations. The Japan Festival in Riyadh will take place from 31 October to 1 November 2025 in the capital’s Diplomatic Quarter. The formal diplomatic relationship between Japan and Saudi Arabia was established in 1955. Since then, the ties have grown stronger through various economic agreements. Saudi Arabia has long been a key supplier of oil to Japan, and Japan continues to invest in Saudi Arabia’s evolving economy. The pair have continued to work together on strategic agreements.
As part of the 70th anniversary, a range of cultural exchange programmes are underway in both countries.
