Anoushka Shankar is making her debut in Riyadh. On 20 September, the sensational sitar player will perform at King Fahad Cultural Centre. If you’d like to get hold of tickets, here’s what you need to know. 

Anoushka is one of the world’s leading sitar players and composers. Born in London, England, she is the daughter of the legendary sitar player, Ravi Shankar, who is one of India’s most famous musicians. She grew up between London and Delhi, studied in the United States, and is also the half-sister of the American singer Norah Jones. 

In 1998, she released her debut album, Anoushka. Her albums also include Anourag, Breathing Under Water, Traces of You and Traveller. Plus, Home, which is solely made up of classical Indian ragas. 

Anoushka performs across different genres, including acoustic, classical, contemporary and electronic. Over her career, she has been nominated for eleven Grammy Awards and was the first musician of Indian origin to perform live at the event. 

During her career, she has also worked with Norah. The producer Nitin Sawhney was behind the album Traces of You, which was recorded over one week. The album featured a collaboration between the sisters. 

When Anoushka comes to Riyadh, she will be blending Indian classical music with contemporary global sounds. Guests can expect her to perform her hits and new music, which combines influences from the East and West.
