There’s a new Italian name to add to your Riyadh dining radar. SASSO, the Qatari restaurant known for its pasta, risotto and pizzas, has announced a new address at VIA Riyadh.
The Doha connection is central to the story. SASSO’s Al Hazm restaurant won Favourite Italian Fine Dining at the FACT Dining Awards Doha 2022, while the brand’s Qatar presence also includes West Walk and Place Vendôme. Its menus combine familiar Italian dishes with more indulgent signatures, giving truffle, burrata and Wagyu beef prominent roles.
For a flavour of SASSO’s culinary identity, starters include burrata from Puglia paired with Sicilian datterino tomatoes, rocket and aged balsamic glaze. Crispy sourdough focaccia with ricotta and white truffle acacia honey takes a sweeter direction, while Wagyu carpaccio is accompanied by a sauce of porcini mushrooms and burrata.
Among the pasta dishes, Pasta Al Forno is a house signature, combining fusilli, chicken, mushrooms, Parmesan and SASSO’s pink sauce. Wagyu Pinwheel Lasagna uses a rolled format with Wagyu Bolognese and beef bacon. There is also tagliatelle with black truffle, shimeji mushrooms and thyme, served in a hollowed Parmesan wheel.
Pizza has its own signature order. The Doha menu’s Sasso Pizza pairs bresaola with mozzarella and black truffle paste, while risotto options include porcini with asparagus and a Milanese version accompanied by veal cooked for six hours. Tiramisu, combining espresso-soaked ladyfingers, cream, milk chocolate and cocoa, rounds out the Italian selection.
The opening comes just in time for Riyadh Season, where SASSO’s VIA Riyadh opening places the Italian restaurant among an international dining line-up that includes Gymkhana, Madeo and Berenjak. With designer boutiques, the Renaissance cinema and The St. Regis Riyadh in the same destination, the setting lends itself to an evening built around dinner.
