Azzal Street Food will open near Al-Hukm Palace.

Get ready, food lovers. The Royal Commission for Riyadh City is transforming part of Al-Zal Market. The initiative aims to bring this urban space back to life and create a street food spot, Azzal Street Food. The official opening date has not yet been confirmed, but here’s what we do know.

The marketplace is located just east of the Al-Hukm Palace compound in the Qasr al-Hukm District. Opening in 1901, it is one of the oldest marketplaces in the capital. In 2005, it underwent a major renovation to restore it to its historic charm.

The souq is already home to colourful carpets, trinkets, and Saudi street food. Since then, it has featured as part of Riyadh Season and welcomed visitors each year. Azzal Street Food will offer an open dining experience, including pedestrian-friendly, affordable eating options that celebrate local cuisine.

According to Saudi Projects via X (formerly Twitter), “Azzal Street Food is one of the initiatives by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City to revive urban spaces and enhance their cultural character through open food experiences, expanding practical foodie options at affordable prices that support local cuisine and increase the city’s vitality.”
