The FIA Extreme E World Cup will kick off this October.

Saudi Arabia has been making serious waves in the world of entertainment. From hosting massive concerts and world-class sporting events, the Kingdom is on a roll. And now, it’s all set to host the world’s first-ever hydrogen-powered motorsport championship called the FIA Extreme H World Cup.

The FIA Extreme H World Cup will take place from 9 to 11 October. Making its debut at Qiddiya City, against the backdrop of the Tuwaiq Mountains, this race is going to be as thrilling as breathtaking. And to add to the excitement, a week before the action begins, you will also get to witness the final ever Extreme E Desert X Prix, happening from 4 to 5 October.

Extreme H is a toned-down version of Extreme E, the all-electric racing series. While Extreme E highlights the effects of climate change by racing in remote, challenging terrains across the globe, Extreme H takes things up a notch by swapping batteries for hydrogen fuel cells. This results in these cars being powered by one of the cleanest energy sources on the planet.

The format of the FIA Extreme H World Cup will be similar to Extreme E as well. Each team will have two drivers — one male and one female — sharing the wheel, making it one of the few global motorsport competitions with true gender equality. The racing will happen on specially designed off-road tracks, making it a great desert thrill.

Extreme H goes beyond the thrills. The championship aims to be a showcase of sustainability and innovation, proving that motorsport can be exciting while also being clean. It’s also designed to highlight hydrogen as an option for renewable energy.

The FIA Extreme H World Cup is shaping up to be much more than just another motorsport series. Its debut in Saudi Arabia also cements the Kingdom’s position on the world map in terms of sports and sustainability. So mark your calendar, because this desert race is going to be one for the books.
