Saudi’s Qiddiya Water Theme Park is making a splash

Everything you need to know about the Kingdom’s first theme park.

Saudi Arabia’s megaprojects are always spectacular. The latest development, however, is all about fun. Lots of fun. Welcome to the exciting leisure development, Qiddiya Water Theme Park,

Qiddiya Water Theme Park will be the first water park in Saudi Arabia. Located on the outskirts of Riyadh, it will span a massive 337,948 metres square. The park will be home to 23 rides and attractions, and seven will be, in true Saudi-style, world firsts. This will be the only water park in the world to offer a mix of dry and wet rides. Plus, animal lovers will be excited by the animal experiences across Arabian Peak, Camel Rock and Herding Grounds.

Qiddiya will also be home to Six Flags Qiddiya, which boasts water rides, shops, dining and entertainment. As this is the first time that the brand is opening in the Kingdom, it is looking to impress. The site includes six themed lands, record-breaking rides and, of course, the world’s longest, tallest and fastest rollercoaster.

If you love a good competition, then bring your game face. The site will hold water sport competitions – surfing, anyone? Lookout for a sports arena, which will hold international competitions; academies for sports; and a racetrack for motorsport enthusiasts.

Overall, the park will offer experiences across sports and wellness; nature and environment; parks and attractions; motion and mobility; and arts and culture.

Abdullah bin Nasser Aldawood, board member and managing director, QIC, explained: “The Qiddiya Water Theme Park will be a year-round immersive family entertainment destination, the first of its kind and offering experiences that have never before been offered in Saudi. We are pleased to be working with industry leaders like ALEC and El Seif, who will be using the latest in guest experience technologies to create what is certain to be one of the world’s greatest water theme parks.”

Plus, Kier International recently announced that it won the contract for Qiddiya Water Theme Park, which means the project is well and truly under construction.
