After being removed from its scheduled April slot, the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix is once again part of the Formula 1 conversation, with a possible late-season return in Jeddah.

Formula 1 is built on precision. Calendars are locked in months ahead, logistics are mapped with military detail, and every race weekend is part of a wider global machine. That is why the disruption to the 2026 season has felt so significant. In March, Formula 1 and the FIA confirmed that the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grand Prix 2026 races would not take place in April due to the ongoing situation in the Middle East, and that no replacement races would be staged during that window.

The original 2026 calendar had Bahrain scheduled for 10 to 12 April 2026 and Saudi Arabia for 17 to 19 April 2026, before the championship was due to resume in Miami on 1 to 3 May 2026. With those two rounds removed from their planned dates, the season has effectively been reduced from 24 races to 22, creating a longer-than-usual pause in the early part of the campaign.

However, the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix is now being linked to a possible return later in the year. Former Formula 1 driver Robert Doornbos has suggested that 6 December 2026 is being discussed as a potential new race date for Jeddah, a move that would place Saudi Arabia between Qatar and Abu Dhabi in the closing stretch of the season. Reports indicate that such a reshuffle could see the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix moved back by one week to preserve its status as the championship finale. As it stands, Abu Dhabi is officially scheduled for 4 to 6 December 2026.

Nothing has been confirmed by Formula 1 or the FIA, so for now this remains speculation rather than a formal calendar update. Still, Saudi Arabia remains an important part of Formula 1’s wider commercial picture, not least because of the sport’s long-term global partnership with Aramco. That means a return to Jeddah later this season would hardly be a surprise if circumstances allow.

If the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix 2026 race does make its way back onto the calendar, it would add fresh drama to the final weeks of the championship. Jeddah Corniche Circuit is one of the fastest street circuits in Formula 1, and inserting it into the run-in would raise the stakes for teams, drivers and fans alike. For now, though, the engines stay quiet on this one until an official decision arrives.

Keep your engines at the ready!
