Foodies across Sharjah can look forward to this

Japanese restaurant Tanuki will open at City Centre Al Zahia any day now.

The popularity of Tanuki spans far and wide – literally. Not only is the Dubai Mall outpost of this Japanese restaurant perpetually teeming with residents and tourists alike, but the chain also boasts branches in Russia, Ukraine and the USA. Now, our neighbours to the north will join the bandwagon as leading hospitality group Bulldozer Group launches a new location at the recently opened City Centre Al Zahia.

Tanuki Sharjah

The culinary concept of Tanuki in Sharjah is inspired by Japanese izakayas, complete with a trendy and comfortable setting. Here, the innovative menu includes cold and hot bites, tempura selections, rice and noodles, yakitori, robata grill, hand rolls, speciality maki and more, blending a modern perspective with traditional Japanese cuisine. Guests can expect the likes of Tuna & Salmon Tataki, Roti with Shrimp & Avocado, Unagi Dynamite Maki, Wagyu Foie Gras Roll, Wagyu Steak, Sesame Crusted Tuna Steak, Braised Short Rib, Grilled Orange-Miso Aubergine, Miso-Orange Black Cod, and more.

However, the culinary experience will not be limited to the unique food creations – guests will also be able to enjoy creative mocktails that are influenced by Japan’s tastes, textures and flavours. The Tanuki dining experience is fun, lively and casual, making it perfect for gathering with friends and family. The interior design, meanwhile, features bonsai, stacked stones and contemporary sculptures in the entryway, evoking the zen gardens that Japan is famous for. A modern reimagining of traditional interiors across the country, the 82-seat dining room features carefully chosen natural materials elevated using artisanal skills.

The eye-catching wicker rattan pendant lights suspended from the wood ceiling installation over each dining table add an inviting style and softly diffused lights in the dining room, while the natural wood dining tables create an organic richness. The dining room features a coffered ceiling design, utilising open cell wood beams that instantly add dimension and warmth into the space. And for those who prefer to dine in the comfort zone of their own home, Tanuki is also planning to create a food delivery system in Sharjah as well as Dubai, employing its own delivery team.
