Wong Kar Wai’s cinematic masterpiece will be screened at Sands Theatre with its score performed live.

Singapore’s cultural calendar is getting a cinematic treat this October, as Wong Kar Wai’s In The Mood For Love arrives at Sands Theatre for a special live concert presentation. Taking place on 24 and 25 October 2026, In the Mood for Love in Concert will see the restored film screened on a full HD big screen in Singapore, while a full symphony orchestra performs the soundtrack live in perfect sync with the film.

Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful films ever made, In The Mood For Love is celebrated for its restrained storytelling, rich atmosphere and unforgettable visuals. The concert format adds a new layer to the experience, allowing audiences to hear Shigeru Umebayashi’s evocative score performed live as Wong’s melancholic romance unfolds on screen.

Originally released in 2000, the film stars Tony Leung Chiu-wai and Maggie Cheung as two neighbours who discover that their spouses are having an affair. As they process the betrayal, the pair form a quiet and deeply emotional connection. Their relationship is shaped by longing, loneliness and restraint, resulting in one of cinema’s most tender portrayals of unspoken desire.

The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received widespread acclaim and earned a nomination for the Palme d’Or. Tony Leung also won Best Actor at the festival, becoming the first Hong Kong actor to receive the award. More than two decades later, In The Mood For Love continues to be recognised as a landmark in Asian cinema.

In the Mood for Love will run for two nights only in Singapore at the Sands Theatre. Performances take place on Saturday, 24 October at 2pm and 8pm, followed by a final show on Sunday, 25 October at 1pm. The running time is approximately 110 minutes, with no intermission.
