Fans of Attack on Titan can now revisit the celebrated manga’s action-packed beginnings.
It seems that humanity’s days are numbered. Following sold-out shows in Japan and New York City, Attack on Titan: The Musical is coming to Sands Theatre from 15 April to 2 May 2027. The stage adaptation of Japanese artist Hajime Isayama’s popular manga has previously sent fans into a frenzy overseas, and its Singapore and Southeast Asia debut promises the same carnage, spectacle, and immersive theatrical soundtracks that made the original a record-breaking phenomenon.
The musical draws from the early chapters of Isayama’s dark fantasy epic, which began as a one-off manga in 2006 before becoming a fleshed-out series in 2009. Attack On Titan is set in a dystopian world where survivors live behind nearly impenetrable walls to escape Titans, mysterious giants with an appetite for human flesh and devastation. When the walls protecting humanity are breached, childhood friends Eren Yeager, Mikasa Ackermann, and Armin Arlert are thrown into a desperate fight for survival as they navigate loss and trauma. Their battle against the antagonists soon leads to more disturbing revelations about the monsters’ origins and the unsettling truth behind humanity’s predicament.
The manga, released in 2009, counts over 140 million copies in circulation and has awarded its creator multiple accolades, including the prestigious Kodansha Manga Award and the Attilio Micheluzzi Award. Today, the Attack on Titan franchise spans a live-action film, spinoffs, novels, video games, and an acclaimed anime series widely regarded by critics for its complex narrative.
Live theatre maestro Go Ueki leads the production of Attack on Titan: The Musical, bringing the characters, monsters, and its post-apocalyptic setting to life using a Japanese staging method known as the 2.5-dimensional theatre. With actors, engaging choreography, live music, and colossal animatronics, fans who have longed to return to the source material since its conclusion can relive all the action in the theatre.

“For fans, it offers another way to experience a world they have come to know so well; for audiences fascinated by Japanese culture and entertainment, a window into a theatrical tradition they may not have encountered before; and for musical theatre fans, an opportunity to discover a different kind of musical storytelling within this 2.5-dimensional genre,” shares Chantal Prudhomme, Chief Executive of Base Entertainment Asia, who represents the staging of Attack on Titan: The Musical in Singapore.
