Holly Golightly has always been ahead of her time. Over 60 years ago, the ingenue became a cinematic icon while indulging in a croissant and coffee, dressed to the nines in front of a Tiffany & Co. window. Now, fans of Audrey Hepburn’s take on the heroine written by Truman Capote can recreate their own Breakfast at Tiffany’s moment at the Blue Box Café at ION Orchard in Singapore.
The Blue Box Café by Tiffany & Co. first opened at the American jeweller’s Fifth Avenue flagship in New York City in 2017, followed by a succession of international openings. Today, Blue Box Café can be found in Dubai, Hong Kong, London, Shanghai, and Tokyo. In Singapore, the menu is the brainchild of acclaimed chef Julien Royer, who brings his refined culinary expression to classic French and American dishes influenced by the flavours of local cuisine.

“Through the café, I hope to share that sense of joy and love for all things beautiful, expressed through elegant French classics with touches of classic American charm, seen through a distinctly Asian lens,” says Royer. “For us, hospitality has always been about making guests feel genuinely cared for — with flavours that feel familiar and comforting, and an experience that leaves them wanting to return.”
Diners at Blue Box Café Singapore can begin their meals with a selection of cold or warm starters. The cold offerings include Heirloom Beetroots served with a spiced almond streusel, fresh goat cheese, and sorrel sprouts sweetened with acacia honey, and the Tiffany Lobster Riviera Salad featuring a baby gem and ‘Rabelais’ tomato salad topped with blue lobster and a soft-boiled egg. The highlight, however, is the Bluefin Tuna Tartare, which tantalises the palate with sparks of lime and Japanese ginger between alternative helpings of the bright ocean catch.

Diners with a heartier palate may prefer the more full-bodied flavours of the warm starters. The Alaskan Spot Prawn Dumpling is worth a mention for its texturally flawless ravioli and flavoursome Obsiblue consommé. Followers of chef Royer will not want to miss the Smoked Organic Egg, essentially the same signature starter famed at Odette but presented with less theatrics at Blue Box Café. Those familiar with this dish will remember how the combination of potato syphon, chorizo, and a free-range organic egg from Japan’s Oita prefecture, smoked with buckwheat, packs a powerhouse of umami from the first bite.

For mains, Patagonian Toothfish is prepared with dashi and sake to give the protein a velvety mouthfeel, and served tableside with a rich seaweed, pomelo, and ikura beurre blanc. Singaporeans will find plenty to love with chef Royer’s take on the hawker staple chicken rice, Confit Yellow Chicken, paired with Niigata rice, crispy chicken skin, grilled maitake mushroom, and an Albufera sauce.
Diners with room for dessert can opt for the Tiffany Island, an île flottante complete with featherlight meringue, pink hazelnut praline, pistachio, and orange blossom water creme anglaise, resting on a Vanuatu vanilla ice cream. Or try the Exotic instead, a refreshing citrus-focused dish with pops of tart passionfruit sorbet, pomelo, and finger lime.

And if a multi-course meal feels too heavy for ladies who lunch, Blue Box Café can perhaps be viewed as a venue for caviar. Here, Maison Kaviari Oscietre Caviar is on the menu in various serving sizes, accompanied by buckwheat blinis, ratte potato, and classic condiments.
But what about the Breakfast at Tiffany’s devotee who wants to actually have breakfast like Holly Golightly? Well, they needn’t be standing in front of the jeweller’s window with a croissant in hand, because there’s a Breakfast at Tiffany’s set of viennoiserie, baked sweets, cured trout, and beverages served from 10am to 11:30am daily. A trimmer variation of the aforementioned set is also available, coined Holly’s Favourites, featuring the items in the silver screen icon’s arms in the film scene.

Settling in for breakfast, lunch or dinner at the Blue Box Café Singapore is, in itself, an artful experience. Between Daniel Arsham’s sculptures, Darren Almond’s paintings, and that unmistakable Tiffany Blue ceiling installation of robin egg blue jewellery boxes, there is plenty to feast your eyes on before the waitstaff gets to even ask, “Still or sparkling?” Yet the real reason to return goes beyond the beautiful surroundings, polished plates, and impeccably chosen tableware. What stays with you is the hospitality: warm, genuinely attentive, and refreshingly unshowy. In a room this lavish, it is the people who ultimately make the biggest impression, proving that the best luxury is not always the kind you can place on a table.
