Damien Rice's O, is a critically acclaimed album that began his journey as a solo artiste.
Damien Rice was the former leading vocalist for the Irish rock band Juniper.
The “O” 25th Anniversary Tour will take place at the Capitol Theatre on 16 and 17 February 2027.
25 years after releasing his solo album O, Damien Rice is going on a global tour celebrating its 25th anniversary.
Sometimes, a change of direction leads to the biggest breakthrough. In 1998, Damien Rice left Irish rock band Juniper and the pressures of a major record label behind. He spent time busking across Europe and farming in Tuscany before recording his debut solo album, O. Released in 2002, the album marked his breakthrough as a solo artist. Twenty-five years after its release, Rice will celebrate its anniversary with a world tour, including two shows at Singapore’s Capitol Theatre on 16 and 17 February 2027.
Those familiar with the album’s melancholic tone will get to relive the experience live, including the singles “The Blower’s Daughter” and “Cannonball”. The O 25th Anniversary Tour begins in Melbourne and Sydney before arriving in Singapore, and will cover major cities in Asia and Europe, such as Bangkok, Seoul, Amsterdam, London, and Madrid, before concluding stateside in New York City’s Kings Theatre Brooklyn.
O has won the Shortlist Prize for Artistic Achievement in Music, received critical acclaim, and is credited as the crowning achievement of Damien Rice’s career as a folk artist.
On his process for conceptualising O, Rice has shared his candid views on what it takes to find his voice as an independent musician. The album’s purpose, as he states, was “To forget about everybody else and make the next record that we’re making just for ourselves again, because there’s something about being in a space where you’re not thinking of other people. You’re just in a moment creating music and emotion, and in a space with people you feel comfortable with. And that for me is the essence of what it is that we’ve done and what it is we do.”
The album closes with “Eskimo”, the song that unknowingly set Rice on the path to this new beginning. Recorded at Windmill Lane Studios during his final days with Juniper, the track was born out of his frustration and sadness over the band’s management. When the record company refused to release it, Rice’s solo career began. In retrospect, O is more than a sensorial, melody-led collection of songs. It is a story about finding the courage to start over, and the sacrifices that come with finding your way back to yourself.
