Set to open at National Gallery Singapore, Seoul & So is a modern Korean steakhouse that builds on a 25-year family legacy.
Singapore may be small on the map, but its dining scene is anything but. Rooted in Chinese, Malay and Indian traditions, the city’s food culture also welcomes global flavours, and Korean cuisine has long enjoyed a devoted following. The latest arrival is Seoul & So, a contemporary Korean steakhouse preparing to open inside National Gallery Singapore on St Andrew’s Road.
The name carries weight. For more than 25 years, diners have been making a pilgrimage to Seoul Restaurant at Conrad Singapore Orchard, drawn by its well-loved Korean barbecue buffets and comforting staples. Now, the second-generation Rhee siblings are evolving the family story with a concept that feels more in tune with how Singapore likes to dine today.
Housed within one of the city’s most significant cultural institutions, Seoul & So joins Odette, National Kitchen by Violet Oon Singapore and Rempapa inside The National Gallery Singapore. The restaurant balances a sense of occasion with an easygoing rhythm, ideal for a quick lunch between galleries or a relaxed evening with friends.
Where its predecessor built a reputation on all-you-can-eat abundance, Seoul & So offers an à la carte menu alongside tasting sets designed for sharing, making it easier to build a table around different cuts, textures and flavours. The grilling experience has also been redesigned. Instead of cooking directly at the table, dedicated grilling stations sit close by, keeping the theatre of Korean barbecue while reducing smoke, fuss, and interruptions.
On the meat front, the line-up reads like a greatest hits of premium sourcing: Japanese and Australian wagyu, USDA Prime beef, and Iberico pork. The real talking point, however, is the arrival of Hanwoo and Handon, Korean beef and pork that have only recently been approved for import into Singapore. For fans of Korean barbecue, that alone is reason to book early.
By pairing heritage with a modern lens, Seoul & So positions itself as more than a nostalgia play. It is a confident next chapter, built for Singapore’s appetite for both quality and experience.
