Japanese piano prodigy Hayato Sumino will bring his Chopin Orbit World Tour to Singapore for his sophomore appearance.
The Japanese pianist and composer Hayato Sumino is returning to Singapore with his Chopin Orbit World Tour on 25 October 2026. Taking over the Esplanade Concert Hall for an evening of classical music richly reimagined with his visionary talents, this latest show will be Sumino’s second appearance in the Lion City following his sold-out debut back in 2024.
The Chopin Orbit World Tour will feature Sumino’s bold take on the oeuvre of the legendary Polish musician Frédéric Chopin, such as the theatrical “Piano Sonata No. 2” and the technically challenging “Winter Wind”. Besides the works of Chopin, Sumino will also orchestrate the shifting moods and intensities of the recital by tempering with the evocative pull of Charles-Camille Saint-Saëns’ “Danse Macabre”, against the energetic rhythm of Igor Stravinsky’s “The Firebird”.
Other highlights of the evening include performances of Hayato Sumino’s original piano pieces, including “Imaginary Polonaise”, “Lydian Harp”, and “White Keys”, restyled with improvisations that best showcase the versatility of his compositions.
Unlike many classically trained musicians, Hayato Sumino first became an international phenomenon via his YouTube profile “Cateen”, where he has shared content ranging from piano recompositions of chart-topping tracks to livestreams answering burning questions from his global fans. To date, Sumino has amassed over 1.5 million subscribers and over 200 million views across the platform.
Since his debut, Sumino has received recognition as a Forbes Japan 30 Under 30 honouree, endorsed as a Steinway & Sons Artist, and has served as an ambassador for Apple Music Classical. Other hallmarks of his career have been marked by key performances with the NHK Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the New Japan Philharmonic led by longtime Studio Ghibli collaborator Joe Hisaishi.
