Fifty years after one of the most influential wine tastings in history, the debate between Old World and New World wine is heading to Singapore. The Judgment of Singapore will take place from 2 to 4 October 2026 at The Laurus Singapore, part of Resorts World Sentosa, as one of the headline events of Singapore Wine Week.

The three-day event will assemble 15 international judges, including Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers and leading figures from across the global wine industry. During a double-blind tasting, the panel will assess some of the world’s most respected bottles without knowing their producer, region or country of origin.

For the 2026 tasting, judges will be presented with 24 concealed wines from the 2019 vintage. The line-up comprises 12 Chardonnays and 12 Cabernet Sauvignons representing acclaimed producers from both the Old World and New World. Rather than focusing on reputation or labels, each wine will be judged entirely on what is in the glass. Criteria will include balance, complexity, ageing potential and individuality, before the panel determines which bottles stand above the rest.

The Judgment of Singapore has been organised in partnership with Impeccable APAC and Park90 and takes its inspiration from the legendary Judgment of Paris. Held in 1976 and organised by British wine merchant Steven Spurrier, the original blind tasting placed Californian wines against prestigious French counterparts. French judges compared California Chardonnay with white Burgundy and Cabernet-based wines with leading Bordeaux reds.

The result sent shockwaves through the industry. Californian wines finished first in both categories, challenging long-held assumptions about where the world’s greatest wines could be produced. The tasting went on to become an important moment in modern wine history and helped accelerate international interest in wines from California and the wider New World.

Half a century later, Singapore will provide the setting for a new chapter. The judging panel will be co-led by Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, former Editor-in-Chief of The Wine Advocate, and Ronan Sayburn MS, CEO of the Court of Master Sommeliers Europe.

Wine lovers will also be able to attend the Fruits of the Vine Wine Fair, a walkabout event featuring approximately 300 wines alongside tastings and masterclasses led by industry specialists. Collectors, meanwhile, can turn their attention to The Grand Cellar Auction. The event will feature a curated selection of rare vintages and sought-after releases, offering buyers the chance to bid for bottles from established estates and notable producers.
