Luxury hotels offering an escape from the city are plentiful in Singapore. The Singapore EDITION, however, does things a little differently. It places guests in the heart of the action, then somehow makes the city feel remarkably far away.
Located just off Orchard Road, The Singapore EDITION offers easy access to Singapore’s famous shopping district while remaining removed from the traffic and commotion beyond its doors. The hotel opened in 2023 as the first EDITION property in Southeast Asia, developed in collaboration with Marriott International. Designed by Safdie Architects with interiors shaped by Ian Schrager’s vision, the 204-room hotel draws heavily on Singapore’s identity as a modern garden city.
That sense of place is a hallmark of the wider EDITION portfolio, which adapts its distinctive design language to each destination rather than simply replicating the same hotel around the world. The London EDITION occupies a restored historic building in Fitzrovia, where oak panelling and residential interiors reference the character of the British capital, while The Abu Dhabi EDITION draws inspiration from its Al Bateen Marina setting and local craft traditions. More recently, The Red Sea EDITION opened on Shura Island in Saudi Arabia, using coral stone and a sandy palette to reflect its island surroundings. In Singapore, that same philosophy takes a greener turn, with architecture, landscaping and interiors shaped around the city’s enduring relationship with nature.
That concept is clear from the moment you step into the lobby. Marble, timber, soft neutral tones and cascading greenery create an understated sense of luxury. The space is glamorous without feeling ostentatious, with enough happening throughout the hotel to make spending an entire weekend here particularly tempting.
Rooms and Suites
The Singapore EDITION’s 204 rooms and suites follow the same restrained design language as its public spaces. Warm white rugs, white-oak flooring, bespoke furnishings and generous natural light combine with thoughtful architectural details that reveal themselves gradually.
By city-hotel standards, there is plenty of room to move in the Garden Premier King. However, it is the bathroom that leaves the strongest impression. Marble surfaces, a deep soaking tub and rainfall shower turn a functional space into something closer to a private spa. Guests with an appreciation for fragrance will also find custom-made Le Labo bathroom amenities.
Those looking for even more space can opt for one of the larger suites. The Orchard Suite spans 109 square metres and features separate living and dining areas, a kitchenette and floor-to-ceiling windows, while the 130-square-metre Premier Suite adds a garden-facing living space.
Then there is The EDITION Penthouse. Measuring 200 square metres and home to a private outdoor terrace, jacuzzi and daybeds, it feels less like a hotel suite and more like a private residence designed for entertaining. It also raises a very reasonable question: why leave at all?
Destination Dining
A hotel this design-led was never going to treat its food and beverage offering as an afterthought. The Singapore EDITION is home to a signature restaurant and four distinct bar concepts, each with its own identity.
Dining is anchored by FYSH at EDITION, the seafood-focused restaurant founded by Australian chef Josh Niland and led in Singapore by Executive Chef Mandy Goh. Its fin-to-scale philosophy is reinterpreted for the sea, encouraging diners to reconsider just how much of a fish can be put to use. Responsibly sourced seafood sits alongside premium meats and vegetables, many of which are cooked over the Josper grill to introduce smoke and char.
Elsewhere, four bars give guests different reasons to stay put. The Lobby Bar acts as the hotel’s social hub, while Punch Room gives the communal punch bowl a contemporary update within an arresting Yves Klein blue setting. Downstairs, late-night revellers can head to the intimate Wonder Room micro-club, while The ROOF offers Southeast Asian-inspired drinks and bites beside the superb swimming pool.
Rest and recreation
For those interested in doing very little, The Singapore EDITION is equally appealing. Its 43-metre rooftop pool is one of the hotel’s standout features, creating a surprisingly resort-like setting in the middle of the city. Framed by skyline views and elevated above the bustle below, it is the kind of place where an afternoon can disappear with very little effort. The pool is open daily from 7am to 10pm, giving early risers and night owls equal opportunity to claim a little downtime in the garden oasis.
For something more restorative, The Spa occupies the second floor and offers a tranquil counterpoint to the hotel’s livelier social spaces. Treatment rooms are complemented by thermal facilities including an indoor vitality pool, sauna, steam room and ice fountain, alongside a relaxation lounge. Products and treatments incorporate names including Le Labo, Cellcosmet, Omorovicza and Hydrafacial.
A 24-hour fitness centre completes the wellness offering with cardio equipment, free weights and a dedicated stretching area.
Perhaps the hotel’s greatest recreational asset, however, is its atmosphere. Between the landscaped courtyard, rooftop swimming pool, spa sanctuary and collection of bars, there are plenty of places to socialise, unwind or simply disappear with a cocktail. Staying in feels less like compromising on Singapore and more like making a conscious choice.
The Verdict
The Singapore EDITION understands something that many luxury hotels struggle to achieve. Modern luxury is not necessarily about adding more, but about making every detail feel considered.
Its location is a major part of the appeal. Guests have the convenience of Orchard Road without sacrificing privacy, and many rooms offer views of landscaped greenery rather than neighbouring shopping centres or residential towers. Better yet, nothing feels included simply because a five-star hotel is supposed to have it; each space contributes to a distinct rhythm that encourages guests to slow down.
The Singapore EDITION may sit in the heart of one of Singapore’s busiest districts, but it has mastered the art of making the outside world feel pleasantly far away.
