Saudi Arabia is coming in strong with its sports news. The Kingdom has announced that it will host the Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk boxing match. Taking place in Riyadh, the Ring of Fire is a fight that forms part of this year’s Riyadh Season. The event will be held at the Kingdom Arena on Saturday, 17 February 17 2024.
The boxing match looks set to be a showstopper, as both Fury and Usyk have unbeaten records. Fury hails from Manchester, England, and he has represented both England and Ireland during his career. He is the World Boxing Council’s world champion, and has held the title since 2020. Plus, he is scheduled to play against Francis Ngannou on 28 October.
Fury shared on Instagram: “I do what I say. I say what I do. Undisputed. This is the Gypsy King era. You can’t rabbit run anymore Usyk – you’re getting it. Thank you to the Kingdom.”
Fury’s British promoter, Frank Warren, added: “Delighted to finally get this fight signed. This is the biggest fight that could possibly be made in our sport. The heavyweights always spark the imagination of the fans, and I have no doubt this will be the biggest boxing event of the century.”
The news was confirmed on the Instagram account of Turki AlAlShikh, the chairman of the General Authority of Entertainment (GEA) and head of Riyadh Season.
Usyk is from Simferopol, Ukraine. He is considered one of the country’s greatest boxers, and has held the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO belts. He won gold medals at the 22011 World Championships and 2012 Olympics. Plus, he previously played in Jeddah in a match against Anthony Joshua.
