House music takes over The Garden on Hudayriyat Island on 13 November 2026.
Claptone and Groove Armada are heading to Surf Abu Dhabi for a night of house music beside the destination’s artificial wave pool. Taking place on Friday, 13 November 2026, the event will see both acts perform DJ sets at The Garden on Hudayriyat Island.
Presented in association with Ilios, which will also host this year’s FACT Dining Awards Abu Dhabi, the outdoor show will feature a stage facing the waves, giving the evening a setting closely tied to the venue’s sporting identity.
Recognisable by his golden mask, Claptone has built a global following through a sound that combines house rhythms with melody and soulful vocals. Since emerging in the early 2010s, he has established a catalogue that includes “Cream”, “Heartbeat” and “No Eyes”. The latter, featuring JAW, remains one of his defining releases, capturing the atmospheric approach that helped introduce him to a wider audience.
His collaborations demonstrate how comfortably that sound accommodates different voices. “Just a Ghost”, recorded with Seal, pairs the singer’s distinctive delivery with Claptone’s production, while his remix of Gregory Porter’s “Liquid Spirit” connects jazz vocals with club culture. Albums including Charmer, Fantast and Closer have given that musical identity room to develop beyond individual dance singles.
Groove Armada arrive with a legacy stretching back to the 1990s. British duo Andy Cato and Tom Findlay have built a body of work that moves between club music and more relaxed listening. The driving energy of “Superstylin’”, the instantly recognisable “I See You Baby” and the gentle mood of “At The River” show the breadth of a catalogue that continues to reach new listeners.
Collaboration has played an important role in that story. “I See You Baby” features Gram’ma Funk and received a widely recognised remix from Fatboy Slim, while “Song 4 Mutya (Out of Control)” teamed the duo with Mutya Buena of the Sugababes. Their influence also extends beyond recording: they co-founded London’s Lovebox festival, helping create a platform for dance music and live performance.
Developed by Modon in collaboration with the Kelly Slater Wave Company, Surf Abu Dhabi uses artificial wave technology to provide surfing experiences for different abilities. Beginners can learn the basics through guided sessions, while more experienced surfers can progress to faster waves and barrels, including the advanced Kelly’s Wave.
