Expect smoke-kissed plates, shareable tapas and a zinc-topped bar built for nights by the water.
The UAE’s dining scene is constantly evolving. From steakhouses to relaxed beach clubs, there are always new culinary options to explore. And now, the capital is all set to welcome another star to its restaurant repertoire with the opening of Marcella in Abu Dhabi.
Located in Yas Bay, Marcella promises laid-back vibes with waterfront views. At the heart of the experience is the open kitchen, where a wood-fired perilla grill takes centre stage. The theatre of the flames sets the tone from the moment you walk in, with fire, smoke and movement shaping both the atmosphere and the food. It feels immersive and unapologetically bold, with the aroma of char and caramelisation drifting through the dining room like an invitation to lean in.

Marcella in Abu Dhabi is backed by Mario Loi, the culinary mastermind behind the FACT award-winning Mika at Yas Marina. With Marcella, Chef Mario Loi is turning his attention to the bold, soulful flavours of the Iberian Peninsula with a modern twist. Here, his goal is to make every meal feel like a celebration. “Marcella is a love letter to the flavours of the Iberian Peninsula,” said Chef Mario. “We serve exceptional produce with sincere service in an atmosphere of warmth, generosity and attention to detail.”
At Marcella, you’ll be able to indulge in the flavours from Spain and Portugal. However, the wood-fired Parrilla Grill remains the highlight, serving the finest cuts. Expect a lineup of tapas and plates that nod to Spanish classics while staying playful. Highlights include Gilda Skewers with olive, guindilla chilli and anchovy, slow-cooked Lamb Ribs Pintxo with sherry glaze, Prawns in garlic and chilli, Octopus Escabeche, and Manchego and truffle churros. There’s also a Devilled Crab Tart, Classic Tortilla with potato and chorizo served with saffron aioli, Otoro Tuna Ceviche with tomato and chilli leche de tigre, Courgette Flower Tempura with honey dressing, Seafood Frito with calamari, mussels and shrimp, plus Croquetas of the day. From the grill, the Signature Picaña Steak Roll with caramelised onion and chimichurri is a must, showcasing Marcella’s fire-driven technique and big, satisfying flavours.

Completing the space is a striking 30-seat, zinc-topped bar with old-world charm and an easy warmth. The beverage programme leans into wines from Spain, Portugal and Argentina, paired with a creative, approachable cocktail list designed for fresh flavour and laid-back sipping.
With open-fire cooking at its finest, a taste of the Iberian coast and Chef Mario Loi, this new spot is shaping up to be one to try.
