The team behind FACT award-winning Marmellata and Barbassi is preparing to open Lucky 2000 Abu Dhabi, a new doughnut shop in Mina Zayed with a distinctly local flavour.

Set to launch this summer, Lucky 2000 takes its inspiration from Italian zeppole, the golden fried dough traditionally served warm and dusted with sugar. Here, the familiar treat is reimagined through the lens of Abu Dhabi, drawing on the flavours, rituals and rhythms of the capital.

Described as “doughnuts, but Abu Dhabi”, the concept is rooted in simple pleasures. Think light, freshly fried doughnuts served alongside strong, sweet black tea. The team has also described the project as a celebration of “nostalgic pleasures,” with a focus on food that feels comforting, joyful and made for sharing.

Lucky 2000 Abu Dhabi will be located in Mina Zayed, one of the city’s most characterful neighbourhoods. Known for its markets, port-side energy and old-school charm, the area provides a fitting home for a concept that blends Italian tradition with local UAE influences.

The menu will focus on Mina-style doughnuts, with flavours inspired by the city and its surroundings. Creations are set to include ingredients such as pistachio, saffron, gahwa, zaatar, orange blossom and ricotta. The combination brings together the warmth of Italian baking with the aromatic flavours often associated with the region.

Ahead of the official opening, Lucky 2000 has already begun teasing weekly flavours. The latest is cardamom, featuring golden Italian doughnuts tossed in fragrant cardamom sugar and filled with vanilla mascarpone cream. Priced at AED 40 for five pieces, the doughnuts offer a generous introduction to the concept.

Lucky 2000 marks the third concept from the team behind Marmellata and Barbassi. Marmellata has built a strong following for its pizza and laidback community spirit, while Barbassi has become one of Abu Dhabi’s standout independent dining addresses. Together, the venues have helped shape the capital’s homegrown restaurant scene.

For now, no official opening date has been announced, and the team has indicated that there will be no traditional soft launch. Instead, the idea is simple: fry dough, welcome passersby and create small moments of joy in Mina Zayed.

With a strong culinary pedigree, a playful concept and a prime neighbourhood location, Lucky 2000 Abu Dhabi looks set to be one of the capital’s most anticipated new openings this summer.
