The next Abu Dhabi performance from Ludovico Einaudi comes with a first. The Italian pianist and composer will join the UAE National Orchestra at Etihad Arena on Sunday, 24 January 2027, marking his debut collaboration with the country’s official orchestra. For fans of his quietly powerful piano music, it is a date to add to the diary.
Born in Turin in 1955, Einaudi trained at Milan’s conservatory before studying with influential composers Luciano Berio and Karlheinz Stockhausen. Across more than 40 years, he has developed a sound shaped by classical music and minimalism, using repeating phrases and gradual shifts to connect with listeners. His appeal stretches from dedicated classical audiences to those discovering piano music through film and popular culture.

His 1996 solo album, Le Onde, inspired by Virginia Woolf’s The Waves, marked a breakthrough. Albums including Una Mattina and Divenire helped expand that following, while compositions such as “Nuvole Bianche”, “Experience”, “I Giorni”, “Una Mattina” and “Divenire” remain among his best-known works. More recent releases include 2025’s The Summer Portraits and 2026’s Solo Piano, which revisits pieces from across his catalogue.
Einaudi’s legacy also extends to the screen. His music features in The Intouchables, Nomadland and The Father, while his scoring credits include This Is England and Doctor Zhivago. His performances have taken him to La Scala, the Royal Albert Hall and the Sydney Opera House. In 2016, he performed “Elegy for the Arctic” on a floating platform in the Arctic Ocean for Greenpeace.
For the Abu Dhabi concert, he will share the stage with an ensemble rooted in the UAE’s own musical identity. Based in the capital, the UAE National Orchestra connects Emirati heritage with Arabic and Western musical traditions. The ensemble comprises 100 musicians and choir members and made its debut at the opening of Zayed National Museum. Its inaugural season began in January 2026, with performances across five emirates.
