Surf Abu Dhabi: The world’s largest wave pool is coming to the capital

Located on Hudayriyat Island, the sight is set to open at the end of 2023.

Abu Dhabi is making waves. The world’s largest surf park, Surf Abu Dhabi, is opening in the capital. The attraction will break records for its artificial waves, and be home to an urban park and velodrome. Located on Hudayriyat Island, the sight is scheduled to open at the end of 2023.

Modon Properties is behind Surf Abu Dhabi, which covers a whopping 51 million square metres. Whether you’re starting or skilled, everyone is welcome to channel their inner Robert Kelly Slater (aka the world’s greatest surfer). Plus, the sight has been designed by Kelly Slater Wave Co, as he has lent his expertise to the project.

What has got us the most excited about Surf Abu Dhabi is its FOMO-inducing features. The attraction will include the world’s biggest barrel, largest man-made wave pool and longest ride.

Velodrome Abu Dhabi will include the UAE’s first UCI Category 1 indoor cycling track. The attraction features a rooftop track, so you can whizz around the walls and admire the city views. Scheduled open in 2025, it aims to host international events in the future. Plus, the island will include a 220-kilometre-long network of cycle tracks.

Other attractions coming to Hudayriyat Island include a 2.25 million square metre urban park, which includes cycling tracks and a mangrove walk. Plus, there will be an eco-farming space, restaurants, bars and playgrounds.

His Excellency Jassem Bu Ataba Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Department of Finance, Abu Dhabi and Chairman of Modon Properties, explained: “The Hudayriyat Island development project is a milestone in Abu Dhabi’s journey of innovation and progress, as it embodies the city’s futuristic vision for sustainable urban planning, building vibrant communities, and developing a diversified economy that boosts the emirate’s competitiveness in all fields.”

Abu Dhabi, we’re excited.
