Abu Dhabi is set to welcome a spectacular new landmark, Al Maryah Waterfront. The development will feature a 30-metre luminous sphere, accompanied by more than 1,000 AI-powered water jets. The water show will be set to a bespoke soundtrack composed by Game of Thrones composer Ramin Djawadi. The opening date has not yet been confirmed, but here’s what we do know.

Al Maryah Waterfront is already under construction and will transform the coastline of Al Maryah Island. Expect world-class, Instagram-worthy water displays, which can be enjoyed as you eat, drink, and stroll along the waterfront. The development will also include outdoor areas, waterfront access, and dedicated food and drink zones.

At the heart of the redevelopment is a 30-metre luminous sphere, which features water jets that reach up to 75 metres high. The displays will dance to music and lights, and promise to be a family-friendly sight. The experience has been developed by the renowned water design studio, WET. This is the same team behind some of the world’s most iconic fountains, from the Bellagio fountains in Las Vegas to The Dubai Fountain.

Dr Bakheet Al Katheeri, CEO of UAE Investments at Mubadala, explained: “The Al Maryah Waterfront enhancement project is a strategic investment in the future of Al Maryah Island. It will introduce iconic elements that enhance quality of life and provide a rich, varied experience for visitors, while reinforcing the island’s position as a leading lifestyle destination.”
