Enjoy an authentic taste of Asia at this Palm Jumeriah restaurant
LAO at Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm Jumeirah has expanded its menu and is offering a four-course extravaganza to celebrate.
The Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm Jumeirah is a property synonymous with excellent restaurants and proficient service. The distinguished brand exudes luxury and exclusivity throughout its distinct dining destinations, including Social by three-star Michelin Chef Heinz Beck and Southeast Asian concept LAO.
LAO embodies a refreshing choice of cuisine for the luxury property, taking guests on a culinary journey from the busy streets of Bangkok to the coastal waters of Vietnam’s Halong Bay via the mountainous rice terraces of Ubud in Indonesia.
Inspired by classic dishes and aromatic flavours, LAO has recently expanded its culinary repertoire to include much-loved favourites from all over Southeast Asia within a relaxed yet vibrant bistro-style atmosphere. Expect flavourful Massaman Beef Curry, aromatic Steamed Seabass with ginger and soya sauce and the ever-popular Pad Thai.
In celebration of the restaurant’s new expanded menu, LAO will be offering a special four-course menu featuring traditional dishes from Thailand, Vietnam, China and Indonesia. Guests will begin their culinary journey with the Som Tam (Thailand’s papaya salad) along with Vietnamese Pho Bo. Guests are then invited to choose from Chinese Kung Pao Stir-Fried chicken, or the popular Indonesian dish of Nasi Goreng served with beef, egg, chicken satay and prawn crackers. The meal culminates with authentic Thai Coconut Sticky Rice with Mango.
LAO’s culinary authenticity is achieved via the use of fresh ingredients, including spices and vegetables brought into Dubai from the fertile and nutrient-rich Mekong Delta, meaning diners will experience a traditional meal prepared as if they were visiting the Golden Triangle.
Embark on a sensory epicurean adventure that utilises authentic spices and sauces in dishes inspired by the family recipes and traditional cooking techniques of the LAO culinary team. Hailing from Northeast Thailand, LAO’s new chef, Kanchana Phayoongwong, brings a lifetime of culinary training to her role. From summer breaks working with her aunt in a popular street food restaurant in Bangkok to the traditional Massaman Beef Curry recipe imparted to her by one of the chef’s at the Thai Royal Palace, these influences are now evident in the cuisine at LAO.
LAO’s Chef Ma Binh Phu (also known as James), comes to Dubai from Saigon and specialises in clean and healthy Vietnamese cuisine. Having been with LAO for over two years, he is known for his spectacular Beef Pho and its deep aromatic broth.
LAO offers diners a memorable dining experience across the charming interiors and alfresco terrace overlooking the hotel’s central gardens. There is also a private dining room available for intimate dinners.
The special four-course menu includes a glass of grape and is available Monday to Saturday, from 6.30pm to 10.30pm until 30 April. AED 249 per person. A la carte of the expanded menu is also available.
