Downtown Dubai is getting a new talking point. Emaar founder Mohamed Alabbar has shared a teaser for Dubai Mall Plaza and Hotel, posting a short video on Instagram on Wednesday, 14 October 2026. The preview signals plans to add a plaza and hotel to the neighbourhood’s mix of shopping, dining and places to stay.
The computer-generated footage shows pedestrian spaces and illuminated architectural details, with the Burj Khalifa providing the backdrop. The images offer an early impression of the proposed development, while information about its precise location, scale and facilities remains under wraps.
The timing is notable. Earlier that day, Alabbar addressed the RISE conference at Dubai World Trade Centre, where he discussed plans for a skyscraper. “We have a unique building that’s fully designed and ready,” he said, suggesting it could be “one of the most beautiful buildings in the world”. He also indicated that tendering was awaiting improvements in logistics and port operations. However, no connection has been confirmed between that skyscraper and Dubai Mall Plaza and Hotel.
The plaza teaser also arrives as Dubai Mall continues to evolve. Emaar recently announced an AED 1.5 billion expansion in June 2024, initially setting out plans for more than 240 additional luxury shops and dining outlets.
The scale of that programme reflects the mall’s continued appeal. Emaar recorded 111 million visitors in 2024, an increase of six per cent on the previous year. The District occupies the former Souk area on the ground floor near Dubai Ice Rink. Emaar has not confirmed whether Dubai Mall Plaza and Hotel falls within the announced expansion or will be delivered as a separate project.
For the hotel itself, details remain limited. An operator, room count, restaurant line-up and opening date have yet to be announced, while the project’s cost and construction schedule are also undisclosed. For now, the teaser offers a name and a first look, with the full hospitality announcement still to follow.
