A London favourite, Fatt Pundit is bringing its fiery Indo-Chinese flair and Kolkata street-food spirit to The Hangout at Mall of the Emirates.
London’s beloved Indo-Chinese dining destination, Fatt Pundit, is preparing to make its Dubai debut, bringing its signature blend of Kolkata-inspired street food and fiery Hakka flavours to the Mall of the Emirates. Originating on Berwick Street in the heart of Soho before expanding to Covent Garden, Fatt Pundit has built a fiercely loyal following across the UK capital.
The concept is confirmed as one of the flagship arrivals at The Hangout by Mall of the Emirates, a new indoor-outdoor lifestyle and entertainment destination rolling out in phases. Designed as a climate-controlled promenade connecting the Fashion Dome to New Covent Garden Theatre, the vibrant precinct will position the restaurant at the very heart of the mall’s newest dining hub.

Playfully named by combining ‘Fatt’, a common Chinese surname, with ‘Pundit’, the Indian word for a scholar, the restaurant tells the story of Tangra, Kolkata’s Chinatown, where Hakka migrants from China’s Canton province blended traditional Chinese cooking techniques with Indian spices. This cross-cultural heritage forms the backbone of Fatt Pundit’s concept, paying homage to the vibrant street-food culture of Eastern India.
Beyond the plate, Fatt Pundit is celebrated for its intimate, atmospheric dining rooms that blend industrial Soho chic with subtle nods to Kolkata’s historic trading past. Diners in Dubai can expect moodily lit interiors, tactile rustic finishes, and an energetic, music-filled ambience crafted for lingering long into the evening.
While the Dubai menu has yet to be announced, the London restaurants offer a taste of what Fatt Pundit is known for. Meals at the restaurant traditionally begin with steamed momos, served straight from steel steamers with a spicy chutney influenced by Bhutan, Nepal, Tibet, and other parts of India. Fillings range from chicken and beef to mixed vegetables, while the Kid Goat Momo, spiced with garam masala, cardamom, ginger and garlic, is a signature.

Among the small plates, the star of the show is the Crackling Spinach. Reminiscent of both Indian chaat and Chinese crispy seaweed, it’s layered with sweet yoghurt, date and plum sauce, and pomegranate. Other standouts include the Popcorn Cauliflower with a smoked soya garlic dip, Hakka Chilly Paneer Lettuce Cups are made with cottage cheese, shallots, soy sauce and black pepper, and the Lollypop Chicken, spicy and crispy chicken wings served with Szechuan chutney.
For mains, there’s the Shredded Chilly Venison, a dish made famous by Mumbai’s Leopold Café, served with mantou bread, and the Ribeye Dry Red Chilly presented with beef strips, Kashmiri red chillies and roasted cashews. Burnt Ginger Rice and buttery, crisp Bing Bread complete the meal.
To finish, the dessert options deliver equal parts theatre and historical charm. The signature Vegan Sizzling Brownie arrives with velvety Madagascan vanilla ice cream. For a taste of sweet Bengali heritage, Lady Kenny offers a refined nod to the classic Ledikeni, a cottage cheese delicacy soaked in syrup, originally named in honour of 19th-century British vicereine Lady Charlotte Canning, bringing the meal to an elegantly nostalgic close.
Fatt Pundit is one of several concepts announced for The Hangout at Mall of the Emirates and will be joined by Apollo, Asma, Crunch – Sandwich [Up]Rising, Crystal Jade Noodle Bar, Feels, and Junk Smash Burger, with more concepts expected to be announced soon.
