Designed for those who like to hustle, Whoop MG offers medical-grade insights that fit seamlessly into everyday routine.
If you asked me how my fitness journey was going, I’d laugh because there isn’t one — unless you count school runs, airport sprints, and the occasional event attendance. I haven’t stepped into a gym in years, and I don’t run unless I’m being chased. So when the new Whoop MG landed on my wrist, I didn’t have high expectations. But I was curious.
Whoop recently unveiled two new wearables: the Whoop 5.0 and the Whoop MG (Medical Grade). These are the first major updates since the Whoop 4.0 was released in 2021, and fans have been eagerly awaiting something new. The 5.0 is aimed at general users, while the MG is for those wanting medical-grade data. With features like FDA-cleared ECG readings and blood pressure insights, it’s a wellness tool in a wristband. And when I tested the Whoop MG for a month, I noticed that it seemed less about step counting and more about body awareness.
The setup
The Whoop MG doesn’t try to be a smartwatch or make a fashion statement. It’s minimal and stylish. You can wear it with a blazer or sweatpants and a messy bun — either way, it blends in seamlessly.
The setup was also quite easy. All you need to do is download the Whoop app, pair the device, answer a few questions, and it’s already tracking your metrics. No buttons to fiddle with, no settings to adjust, and no screen screaming at you for not doing enough. Also, charging it is a breeze. The battery lasts for 14 days, and the slide-on charger means you don’t even have to remove the wearable.

The plot twist
But the real surprise came after a few days of wear when I found myself wanting to check in on how my body was doing. Most days, I feel like I’m being stretched too thin, ready to explode. But the Whoop’s Stress Monitor helped me put numbers to that feeling. It was less about judgment and more about awareness. It gave a quiet nudge that maybe I needed a five-minute breather before diving back into emails and laundry.
The app even provided breathwork exercises when stress levels were high. I’ll be honest, I didn’t always have time to sit and zen out, but just knowing how my body was reacting allowed me to slow down when I could.

WHOOP’s Women’s Hormonal Insights are another game-changer. These map out menstrual phases and suggest real-time tips to help you feel more energised. The device also provides pregnancy-specific insights, such as hydration reminders, sleep goals, and more, making it a safe choice for expectant mothers.
And as someone who’s had a bit of a heart health scare, the Whoop MG has an ECG reader. All you need to do is load the app, pinch the clasp of your Whoop with your thumb and forefinger, and it will run a 30-second ECG.
However, to unlock full recovery insights, including your Whoop Age (which tells you how your body is performing compared to your actual age), you need to wear the band to bed, which I couldn’t do. I tried for a few days, but I’m a light sleeper with a sensitivity to everything, and sleeping with a strap on my wrist felt annoying. That means I missed out on some of the deep sleep-related metrics. I already know I don’t get enough sleep. As for the Whoop Age, I can tell, based on my lifestyle, that I’m probably 60.

The verdict
Despite having no fitness routine, I liked the Whoop MG. I’m not training for a marathon, I’m just trying to function. As a working mum who travels frequently, this wasn’t about performance. It was about reconnecting with my body, energy, and whatever little capacity I had left. It didn’t guilt me into moving more. It didn’t buzz on my wrist asking me to “stand up”. It simply observed and offered insight. Over time, I began to notice patterns. It was like having a silent, judgment-free friend in my corner.
The Whoop MG didn’t transform my life in 30 days — but it did help me tune in, slow down, and start listening to what my body’s been trying to tell me for a while. And for someone whose definition of exercise is lifting a child and a laptop bag on the same trip, that feels like a win.

If you’re a beginner or just someone exhausted and unsure where to start, the Whoop MG is a great tool for building awareness without pressure. It’s intelligent and designed to meet you where you are, not where a personal trainer thinks you should be, making it worth a try.
