Enjoy laid-back vibes at the new Japanese restaurant.
The origin stories of restaurants often sound the same. That’s not the case with the new Japanese concept, Kima. It wasn’t born in a boardroom but from a big argument. The restaurant brings all the vibes of a low-key neighbourhood izakaya to the heart of Jumeirah Lake Towers in Dubai. Opening on Friday, 13 June, here’s what to expect.
Kima’s tagline reads: “No suits, no filters – just food, drinks, and good noise”. The aim is to showcase a traditional izakaya experience, and at the heart of the experience is the food. In Japanese, izakaya translates to stay, drink and place, which are three things FACT can get behind.

Kima boasts a laidback look, as though it has come from the streets of Tokyo to Dubai. Outside, there is an illuminated logo in English and Japanese. The sign is easy to spot, as it’s in bright yellow and red. The window peeks in onto the diners and chefs, which has no Insta-gimmicks – just good food.
The space is chilled, as diners are seated in close proximity to one another. Take your pick from a range of small and large tables, and counter top seats. At the back, you’ll find the counter, which leads to the kitchen. On the walls of Kima, there are old-school Japanese posters and viny records.
The menu at Kima Izakaya spans donburi, maki, small dishes and desserts. Signature dishes – labelled Kima dishes – include California, Ebi Maki, Kima Kara-age, Spicy Chicken, Salmon Avocado, Spicy Tenderloin, Spicy Tuna, Veggie Roll, and Yakisoba.
