Bisou Review: French meets Mediterranean at the fine dining restaurant

Located near Dubai Opera, it offers a theatrical dining experience.

It’s time to say bonjour to Bisou. In this case, two air kisses would be appropriée – not only does it mean kiss in French, but it is located near Dubai Opera. The French meets Mediterranean restaurant has opened in Downtown Dubai, and it is suitably theatrical with a dramatic décor, which oozes old-world glamour.

Designed by Tristan Du Plessis, Bisou wouldn’t look out of place in 1920s Paris. The interiors include shimmering chandeliers that look like they are floating, large-scale sculptures worthy of the Vatican, and artwork that could hang in the Louvre. Spanning two floors, the ground floor boasts a brasserie feel, white tablecloths and open kitchen, and the first floor boasts a bar vibe, small tables and ottoman seats. Plus, there’s a grand staircase, and terrace overlooking Dubai Opera.

Bisou in Dubai

Bisou in Dubai fuses together flavours from France and the Mediterranean. Chef Vladimir Chistyakov explains: “We’re bringing an unmatched taste and atmosphere to our guests. Each day diners are invited to step inside and celebrate life’s simple pleasures. Through our attention to detail, warm ambience and unparalleled food offerings, we strive to create everyday magic”.

On arrival, the service is fast and formal, and the staff are knowledgeable about the menu. Bisou in Dubai’s menu spans raw, meze, small bites, salads, soups, vegetables, mains, sharing plates and desserts. Start with the Brioche Bread, which is warm from the oven, and the popular Muhammara dip. The starters have a peppering of the Middle East, from Dates with tahina yuzu and black caviar to Foie Gras Cream with dates and pecan.

For mains, the Duck Breast and Lamb Chops even come with dates. Each dish comes in bite-sized pieces, which are superb for sharing. The Tagliata Striploin Salad is the star of the show, and the Artichoke Fries and French Fries are good support acts. The desserts span French staples, from a Crème Brulee to Patisseries. The Chocolate Tart is a tasty treat – while we love the raspberry topping, it can do without the truffle shavings.

Bisou in Dubai’s drinks menu is a surprising success. Drawing inspiration from literature, the cocktails aim to tell a story. During our visit, it only served mocktails, but we were impressed with the care and creativity. Precise Princess comes with non-alcoholic amaretto, pumpkin and spices, and an ice cube with a slipper inside – à la Cinderella

If you love culinary combinations where more is more, then Bisou in Dubai is for you. Expect the Dubai extras – caviar, dates and truffle. And, given its proximity to Dubai Opera, it’s a spectacular spot for drinks and the curtain call on your night.

A chef’s kiss for Bisou.
