Expect Cantonese and Sichuan flavours against panoramic views of Downtown Dubai.

Dubai’s dining scene gains fresh momentum with the arrival of Yu & Mi at the soon-to-open Mandarin Oriental Downtown, Dubai. Perched on the 36th floor, guests enter through a discreet doorway and emerge into a world that nods to the cultural energy of 1960s Hong Kong.

Plush red seating anchors the room, eclectic artwork adds character, and glowing script creates a soft halo of light. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the skyline, while warm brick walls and ambient lighting set an intimate tone.

Yu & Mi

Yu & Mi is built on contrast, and that duality shapes the journey. Yu, meaning “jade,” is a lively bar where cocktails take centre stage. The list leans into teas, spices and botanicals, creating infusions that feel both classic and new. Across the threshold sits Mi, meaning “secret” is a dining room that celebrates the bold flavours of Cantonese and Sichuan cooking. Together, the two settings flow from aperitif to after hours, giving Dubai a destination that blends elevated dining with a sense of occasion.

The menu draws inspiration from Hong Kong’s golden era and reworks tradition with a modern touch. Starters are built for sharing, from Crispy Duck Salad and King Crab Xiao Long Bao to Sichuan-Glazed Beef Short Ribs. Mains lean bolder, including Stir-Fried King Prawns with Chilli and Walnuts and Crispy Rice in Lobster Broth, alongside a wider line-up of regionally inspired dishes.

At the centre of it all is the Peking Duck, carved tableside with ceremony and serving as the menu’s defining signature. Throughout the night, dim sum trolleys circulate, while artisanal teas are prepared using the traditional Gong Fu Cha ritual, grounding the glamour in heritage and discipline.

Leading the kitchen is Executive Chinese Chef Yang Guojian, with more than two decades across award-winning Chinese kitchens in Asia, alongside Dim Sum Head Chef Jade Lee, known for refined craftsmanship honed at Mandarin Oriental properties in Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta.

The cocktail programme taps into Chinese teas, botanicals and rare spirits, backed by a tight selection of baijiu, sake and wines. Signature serves include Jade Fever, a hoisin sauce-washed mezcal with cucumber, spring onion, tomato and chlorophyll, plus Moonstone Silk, which blends milk oolong tea-infused pisco with white chocolate and citrus. For something darker, Onyx Eclipse pairs sesame oil-washed baijiu with Nikka Coffey Vodka and black sesame, finished with popcorn and espresso.

Aside from Yu & Mi, Mandarin Oriental Downtown, Dubai promises a series of diverse dining venues. Chitarra will serve authentic Italian cuisine, featuring dishes such as homemade pasta and other classics. Osaka Nikkei brings its acclaimed flavours from Lima to Dubai, and Billionaire Dubai will be located on the rooftop.

With a prime location, dramatic views and a concept that mixes elegance with art, Yu & Mi is expected to open in October.
