The UAE’s electronic music calendar is turning back the clock for one of the genre’s most influential names. British DJ and producer Paul Oakenfold will return to Dubai for The Legends of Trance, taking place at The Agenda on Friday, 18 September 2026.
For anyone familiar with the development of modern dance music, Oakenfold needs little introduction. The London-born artist has spent more than four decades behind the decks and played a significant role in moving electronic music from underground clubs into the mainstream. Following a transformative trip to Ibiza in 1987, he became closely associated with the Balearic sound that helped fuel Britain’s acid house and rave movements.
His influence continued with the launch of Perfecto Records in 1989. The label became a major force in progressive house and trance, releasing music from artists including BT, Tilt, Solarstone and Markus Schulz. Oakenfold also took electronic music far beyond the nightclub, working on productions and remixes for Madonna, U2, The Rolling Stones, Britney Spears and Elvis Presley. His career has earned him three Grammy nominations.
Oakenfold’s 2002 album Bunkka produced several tracks that remain closely associated with his career, including “Starry Eyed Surprise”, featuring Shifty Shellshock, “Ready Steady Go” and the Carla Werner collaboration “Southern Sun”. Other fan favourites include “Faster Kill Pussycat”, featuring the late Brittany Murphy, alongside his work under the Planet Perfecto banner.
Oakenfold has also developed a reputation for taking dance music to unconventional locations. He performed at Mount Everest Base Camp in 2017 and became the first artist to stage a performance at Stonehenge the following year. His connection with the Middle East includes a major appearance at the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi in March 2019, where he soundtracked the Parade of Athletes at Zayed Sports City.
Now, the veteran DJ is heading back to Dubai for another journey through trance and electronic music. With decades of club culture behind him and a catalogue that has crossed dance floors, film soundtracks and pop collaborations, The Legends of Trance offers the chance to revisit the music of one of the artists who helped shape the genre.
