The first phase of the upgrade is scheduled to be unveiled in late 2026.
Dubai is renowned for its stunning skyline and luxurious experiences. But despite all that, the city features a stretch of nature that’s about to get a major glow-up. Say hello to the brand-new Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary development project.
The Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary upgrade will roll out in phases. This initial phase will focus on preserving and enhancing the area’s already rich biodiversity. That means planting more mangroves, creating new eco-habitats like the North Edge Lake and reed ponds, and even adding additional hectares of salt flats to help support the ecosystems that exist here. Water bodies within the reserve will increase, which will boost the site’s ability to absorb carbon dioxide.
The second phase is where it gets even more exciting. This will include the development of a beautifully designed visitor centre, birdwatching towers, cafes and kiosks, environmental education hubs, and even scenic walking trails and cycling tracks. Over 5.6 kilometres of cycling paths and 3 kilometres of walkways will be added, making it the perfect weekend escape.
Not only is the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary great for recreation, but it’s also heavily focused on sustainability, wildlife protection, and providing people with a new way to connect with nature.

Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary was the first site in the UAE listed under the Ramsar Convention for wetlands of international importance. It’s home to over 450 species of flora and fauna, including the popular flamingos. And now, it’s only going to get better. Once the transformation is complete, the sanctuary is expected to welcome up to 300,000 visitors a year.
So if you’re a fan of flamingos or just someone who loves a peaceful stroll through nature, this sanctuary is about to become your new favourite escape. The first rollout is scheduled to take place in late 2026, so keep your eyes peeled for all the details.
