Art on a plate at Trattoria

Trattoria launches a series of limited edition artistic dishes inspired by the artists showcased at Souk Madinat Jumeirah’s Theatre of Digital Art.

To coincide with the launch of the multi-sensory, multimedia immersive exhibition showcased at the Theatre of Digital Art Dubai, Trattoria, the authentic and rustic Italian eatery at Souk Madinat Jumeirah has launched a series of limited-edition dishes.

Inspired by artists such Van Gogh, Kandinsky, Munch and Monet, Trattoria’s Sous Chef Andrea Brugnetti has curated a collection of unique dishes that fuse culinary techniques with renowned artworks from the revolutionary artists, each available for one week until 28 November.

Van Gogh and Kandinsky (available from 25 to 31 October and 22 to 28 November):

Van Gogh (AED 65). Using potatoes and onions, which are often featured in Vincent Van Gogh’s work, the team at Trattoria have created a sunflower design evocative of the artist’s most famous painting series, Sunflowers. A dish of potato millefoglie filled with veal bacon, onion petals and sour cream.

Wassily Kandinsky (AED 30). An abstract strawberry panna cotta dessert, inspired by one of Kandinsky’s most recognisable paintings, Squares with Concentric Circles, which features geometric forms and patterns.

Seurat and Delaunay (available from 1 to 7 November):

Georges Seurat (AED 60). A vegetable tart with gorgonzola cheese sauce. This dish contains farm produce with classic flavours and earthy colours, reminiscent of one of Seurat’s most well-known paintings, Farm Women at Work.

Robert Delaunay (AED 70). Beef carpaccio with root vegetables and parmesan fondue plated to mimic Delaunay’s ‘orphic’ style, which features intense colours and geometric shapes.

Gris and Munch (available from 8 to 14 November):

Juan Gris (AED 80). Risotto cooked in whey and dry spices, this dish offers a mix of colours and geometric shapes and is an ode to the singular Cubist style of Juan Gris.

Edvard Munch (AED95). Italian baccalà (salted cod) with black squid ink and red and yellow bell peppers. The colours of this dish evoke the sunset in Munch’s most famous painting, The Scream, while the black squid ink is used to represent the dark sea.

Klee and Monet (available from 15 to 21 November):

Paul Klee (AED 80). Tuna tataki with squid ink, tomato coulis, yellow bell pepper and rocket sauce. The vibrant colours and rich flavours are used to mimic Klee’s artistic style, influenced by Expressionism, Cubism and Surrealism.

Claude Monet (AED 40). Green pea velouté with soft boiled egg and aromatic herb salad is inspired by The Luncheon, one of Monet’s paintings featuring a family lunch scene with the same ingredients on the table.

ToDA Dubai ticket holders can avail a credit of AED 75 against a minimum spend of AED 150 when dining at Trattoria upon the presentation of their ticket.
