TEMPTING TAIKUN

Taikun Pan Asian Restaurant and Lounge has officially reopened its revamped doors.

Having undergone a subtle refurbishment during its temporary closure, Taikun situated in the heart of Downtown Dubai is back with a new layout, intricate décor and an elevated culinary offering. FACT visited recently for a peek at the new-look venue which is set to reposition itself as both a dinner and nightlife venue.

The atmosphere is decidedly lively as we enter into the dark and intimate venue. Bamboo fans sway hypnotically overhead, and there’s a furore in the bright show kitchen, where noodles are rapidly hand-pulled, and meats are skewered and grilled to perfection.

Seated comfortably upon beautifully upholstered furniture, we can pause and take in the intricate interiors with their Japanese influence. Libations abound from a menu of expertly crafted mixology, but it’s the succinct menu of Pan Asian favourites that immediately captures our attention. The menu, conceptualised by Lincoln Hospitality’s Group Executive Chef Brian Voelzing features all of your everyday favourites such as Dynamite Shrimp and Miso Cod, plus a whole host of veritable delights.

Beginning with the seabass ceviche which is light, fruity and elevated thanks to the use of pomegranate and mango, we swiftly devour the Salmon Carpaccio with its paper-thin slices of raw fish accompanied by sesame ponzu and dry chilli.

An enticing array of sushi choices includes tempting options such as the Wasabi Tuna, fiery Volcano maki and the impressive Wagyu Tataki Roll which utilises fresh truffle, truffle ponzu and light truffle aioli. From the wok, you can expect to find chicken cashew and Malay beef with shitake mushrooms, while from the robata grill options include the avocado teriyaki and yuzu chimichurri striploin.

Dessert offers a show akin to the dinner shows which the venue is set to launch towards the end of the year. An exciting Coconut Crème Brûlée boats the signature burnt sugary top alongside plumes of smoke from the dry ice which is used for presentation.

Taikun is three experiences on one, upmarket restaurant, vibrant lounge and beautiful garden. The latter is set to open any day now, just in time for al fresco dining season. Marrying the tranquillity of Asia with the vibrant energy of Downtown Dubai, this is one restaurant you don’t want to miss this October.
