Ajmal is making its way from the United Arab Emirates to the United Kingdom. The fragrance brand is a favourite in Dubai, and will now open in Westfield London in Shepherd’s Bush, London. The opening date has not yet been confirmed, but here is what we do know.
In 1951, Ajmal was founded by Haji Ajmal Ali. Born into a family of rice farmers in Alinagar, a village in Assam, India, he sought a new way to support his family. Inspired by the region’s oudh trade, he left home with just Rs 500 and opened his first perfume shop in Mumbai’s Crawford Market. Built on creativity and craftsmanship, the family business quickly flourished. Over the decades, Haji Ajmal Ali and his sons transformed a small independent shop into an internationally recognised perfume house.
In 1976, Ajmal opened its first store in Murshid Bazaar, Dubai. The city became the heart of the brand’s expansion, helping to establish Ajmal as one of the Middle East’s leading fragrance houses. Today, the company is known for blending traditional Middle Eastern perfumery with contemporary fragrance, offering everything from rich oudh perfumes to modern floral, woody and oriental scents.
Ajmal has been sharing glimpses of what to expect from its London opening. On Instagram, the brand has posted images and videos of the Houses of Parliament. One post states “driven by vision”, and another reads: “that journey opens a new chapter in London soon.”
Now, Ajmal is bringing that heritage to London. Visitors can expect a collection of fine fragrances inspired by the Middle East, alongside the brand’s bestselling perfumes and signature oudh creations. The new venue is being designed by Brx London, and looks set to be a sleek space. The bottles are on display like works of art, and there will be counter tops where guests can try the fragrances.
