Maison Margiela offers men’s, women’s and unisex clothing. The clothing is famous for its avant-garde designs and deconstructive looks. The collections span accessories, bags, shoes and ready-to-wear. Plus, there is a collection of fragrances and homeware goods.
In 1988, Maison Margiela was founded by the Belgian fashion designer Martin Margiela. After studying fashion at the Royal Academy of Antwerp, he went on to work as a design assistant to Jean Paul Gaultier. When he launched his own brand, he originally worked from his Paris apartment before opening his first Parisian store and a studio in Antwerp.
Over the years, Maison Margiela has held fashion shows in unconventional locations. The catwalk shows have taken place in metro stations and on street corners. These shows were originally viewed as immersive art experiences, rather than traditional fashion shows.
Today, the brand has generated more than $126 million in annual revenues and can be found around the world in more than 50 locations.
