Exciting news for Air Jordan fanatics: the Air Jordan 3 Retro True Blue will return this month for the first time in a decade. As one of four original Air Jordan 3 colourways, the True Blue style has been reissued on several occasions, but hasn’t been at retail since 2016.
The sneaker gets its name from the light blue accents throughout the shoe’s design, including on its OG-style Nike Air-branded heel logo. The all-white leather shoe also features red details, which add contrast, whilst the Air Jordan 3’s signature elephant print appears throughout the midsection of the eyelets, a detail singular to the True Blue colourway.

The True Blue was originally released in 1988, as one of four original Air Jordan 3s, along with the Black Cement, White Cement and Fire Red styles. After its debut, the sneaker was re-released in 2001 and then again in 2009 as an international exclusive with more follow-up re-releases in 2011 and 2016.
Michael Jordan often wore the Fire Red and White Cement Air Jordan 3s as well as the Black Cement during the 1988 NBA All-Star Game. The True Blue’s on-court legacy is less noteworthy. It was worn by Jordan during an Olympic exhibition that saw Jordan and other NBA stars pitted against Team USA.
Michael Jordan changed basketball and sneaker culture forever with his iconic Air Jordan line. First launched in 1985 with Nike, the sneakers became a global symbol of performance, style and innovation, with classics like the Air Jordan 3 remaining highly sought-after decades later.
The Air Jordan 3 Retro True Blue will be released in full sizing on 18 July. The shoes will be up for sale on the Nike’s Snkrs app, with availability from global Jordan Brand retailers.
