City Insider: Mouna Ouni, Cluster Director Marketing and Communications

FACT caught up with the Cluster Director Marketing & Communications at Mövenpick Grand Al Bustan and Swissôtel Al Murooj Dubai

Tell us about your day-to-day role and what keeps it challenging and exciting?

I like to start my day with a cup of coffee for a dose of good vibes and positivity. In the morning, you can usually find me in the hotel lobby or in the all-day dining outlet checking in on the team and guests. The conversation does not always have to be about work. Later on, the genuine feedback they have shared with me will be passed onto the heads of departments to come up with ways to improve everybody’s experience. I always get surprised by how brilliant their ideas are!

I consider all challenges that come my way as an opportunity for growth and thinking outside of the box is a best practice for me. Discovering other hotel and F&B destinations is one source of inspiration to enhance what we currently have.

What do you believe hotels and restaurants have to do to stay relevant and ensure success during these unprecedented times for the industry?

Safety is a top priority now more than ever. Expressing our care towards everyone is essential and, if communicated the right way, I believe it will have a positive effect on any business. Hoteliers and restaurateurs have to keep innovating and bring new concepts to maintain consumer interest. Investment in digital platforms (especially social media) is one effective way to reach the local market.

What are some of your favourite cultural hotspots in Dubai and why?

DTCM launched a campaign called #DubaiDestinations, where they highlight hidden gems and must-visit destinations in Dubai. I recently had the opportunity to experience Aayan Equestrian Club, Platinum Heritage and Balloon Adventures Dubai. After 19 years of living here in Dubai, I thought to myself that it still amazes me every time. In addition to this, EXPO 2020 Dubai’s UAE Pavilion is a great way to immerse oneself in the UAE culture.

Please share with us some of your professional goals for the rest of the year.

Self-investment is and will always be top of my list. Even though I carry more than 17 years of professional experience with me, I still look forward to learning new skills and upgrading my current flair. I am also keen to participate in several brand CSR initiatives in partnership with local authorities and to nurture my team, as it gives me immense pleasure to witness their growth and success.
