The metro station will form part of the upcoming Blue Line.

If there’s one thing Dubai doesn’t do, it’s play it safe. From skyscrapers to artificial islands, the emirate thrives on pushing boundaries, and its latest announcement is no different. Dubai had already revealed plans to expand its metro network, but it’s doing so in a grand way by building the world’s tallest metro station as part of its upcoming Blue Line expansion.

Located in the rapidly developing Dubai Creek Harbour district, the record-breaking station will be named Emaar Properties Station and will rise to an astonishing height of 74 metres. This ambitious project has received the green light from none other than the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

world's tallest metro station

The station has been designed by American architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the same masterminds behind Burj Khalifa. Their design for Emaar Properties Station draws inspiration from the concept of a “crossing gateway” and spans an impressive 11,000 square metres, with a capacity for up to 160,000 passengers per day.

But that’s not all the Blue Line has in store. Stretching 30 kilometres across Dubai, this new metro extension includes 14 stations, five underground and nine elevated, and will feature Dubai’s largest underground interchange. One of its most exciting features is a 1.3-kilometre viaduct that crosses Dubai Creek, offering panoramic views of the skyline and adding a scenic dimension to the daily commute.

The Blue Line is designed to improve connectivity across the city, linking to the already established Red and Green metro lines via three interchange stations. Once operational in 2029, it will provide access to key residential and business hubs including Academic City, Al Warqa, Dubai Silicon Oasis, International City and Mirdif.

More than just a transit point, the Emaar Properties station isn’t just another addition to the metro network, but also an upgrade in Dubai’s already impressive skyline. Whether you’re a daily commuter or a curious visitor, this is one station you’ll want to stop at.
